New Medicaid patients went to hospitals 20 percent more after they got coverage than before according to a study from the Brookings Institute. The study found it’s not that the patients in the states that have expanded Medicaid suffer more emergencies; it’s that if they are covered under Medicaid, they don’t have to worry about debt collection.
