{"id":11464,"date":"2018-09-12T11:38:19","date_gmt":"2018-09-12T15:38:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/medicarereport.org\/?p=11464"},"modified":"2018-09-12T11:46:39","modified_gmt":"2018-09-12T15:46:39","slug":"more-older-americans-are-turning-to-marijuana","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/medicarereport.org\/?p=11464","title":{"rendered":"More Older Americans Are Turning To Marijuana"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(By Mara Gordon for NPR)<\/p>\n<p>Members of the generation that came of age in the era of marijuana are reaching for weed in their golden years.<\/p>\n<p>A<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0376871618304538?via%3Dihub\">\u00a0study<\/a>\u00a0published in the journal\u00a0<em>Drug and Alcohol Dependence\u00a0<\/em>this month suggests that increasing numbers of middle aged and older adults are using marijuana \u2014 and using it a lot.<\/p>\n<p>The analysis comes from data gathered in the<a href=\"https:\/\/nsduhweb.rti.org\/respweb\/homepage.cfm\">\u00a0National Survey on Drug Use and Health<\/a> from 2015 and 2016. About 9 percent of U.S. adults between ages 50 and 64 used marijuana in the previous year, according to survey results.
