Although feelings of sadness or \u201cblue\u201d moments are a natural part of aging, depression is not normal at any age.\u00a0 Because caregivers mistakenly assume depression is a normal part of aging, in many cases, the condition goes undiagnosed and untreated.\u00a0 When depression goes unrecognized and untreated, there are serious consequences; depression is the single most significant risk factor for suicide in the older adult population.
