Why? Something called Medicare\u2019s three-day rule. This rule states Medicare Part A will cover care at a skilled nursing facility only if the individual is admitted as an inpatient in the hospital for three consecutive days. Those individuals in the hospital who are under observation status, are considered to be outpatient. Medicare Part B covers outpatient services. Medicare Part B will not cover any portion of a skilled nursing facility stay.
