However, there is one event that happens every October 15th and runs for seven weeks: Medicare Open Enrollment Period. During this time of the year, you may be able to enroll in or switch to another Medicare Advantage plan or Medicare Part D prescription drug plan, or you can drop your health plan and return to Original Medicare. But, a recent study by the Kaiser Family Foundation found that 71 percent of Medicare beneficiaries do not explore their coverage options during open enrollment.
