{"id":2035,"date":"2016-02-19T11:59:51","date_gmt":"2016-02-19T16:59:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/medicarereport.org\/?p=2035"},"modified":"2016-02-21T12:02:20","modified_gmt":"2016-02-21T17:02:20","slug":"urban-medicare-beneficiaries-may-see-more-drug-savings-this-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/medicarereport.org\/?p=2035","title":{"rendered":"Urban Medicare Beneficiaries May See More Drug Savings This Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(By &#8211; Michelle Andrews, Kaiser Health News)<\/p>\n<p>Medicare beneficiaries who live in urban areas may save money on their prescription drugs this year because they have better access to pharmacies in drug plan networks that charge lower copayments or coinsurance, <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.cms.gov\/2016\/02\/11\/making-preferred-cost-sharing-pharmacies-more-available\/\" target=\"_blank\">according to the federal Centers for Medicare &amp;\u00a0Medicaid Services<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Such \u201cpreferred cost-sharing pharmacies\u201d have been on the rise, adding another layer of calculation \u2014\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/khn.org\/news\/medicare-offers-relief-to-400000-caught-in-aetna-pharmacy-network-mix-ups\/\" target=\"_blank\">and sometimes confusion<\/a> \u2014 for Medicare beneficiaries who are trying to find\u00a0the best price for their drugs. In 2016, 85 percent of standalone Medicare drug plans identified a subset of pharmacies that offered lower or \u201cpreferred\u201d cost sharing within their pharmacy networks, as did 28 percent of Medicare Advantage drug plans.
