{"id":21976,"date":"2023-10-26T07:38:03","date_gmt":"2023-10-26T11:38:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/medicarereport.org\/?p=21976"},"modified":"2023-10-26T07:38:03","modified_gmt":"2023-10-26T11:38:03","slug":"doubts-abound-about-a-new-alzheimers-blood-test","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/medicarereport.org\/?p=21976","title":{"rendered":"Doubts Abound About a New Alzheimer\u2019s Blood Test"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>(By Judith Graham for KFF Health News)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the first time, people worried about their risk of Alzheimer\u2019s disease can go online, order a blood test, and receive results in the privacy of their homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This might seem appealing on the surface, but the development has Alzheimer\u2019s researchers and clinicians up in arms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Quest Diagnostics blood test, AD-Detect, measures elevated levels of amyloid-beta proteins, a signature characteristic of Alzheimer\u2019s. Introduced in late July, the test is targeted primarily at people 50 and older who suspect their memory and thinking might be impaired and people with a family history of Alzheimer\u2019s or genetic risks for the condition.
