The premiums paid by Medicare beneficiaries are generally 25 percent of the program costs for Part B and Part D, with the government paying the remaining 75 percent. However, for seven percent of the higher-income Medicare beneficiaries, instead of doing a 25:75 split with the government, they must pay a higher share of the program costs.
