Two weeks ago, a Senate <a href=\"http:\/\/khn.org\/news\/senate-panel-kills-medicare-program-that-offers-help-on-enrollment-billing-issues\/\" target=\"_blank\">committee voted<\/a> to eliminate\u00a0it.<\/p>\n<p>The measure preserving the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shiptacenter.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">State Health Insurance Assistance Program<\/a>, known as SHIP, is part of a massive spending bill for federal health, education and labor programs, approved by the Republican majority of the House appropriations\u00a0 subcommittee that oversees those departments. Democrats opposed the bill, which would cut money for the Affordable Care Act, Medicare and the Social Security Administration.
