In just the past decade, we have moved rapidly from paper medical records to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statnews.com\/2016\/09\/27\/electronic-health-records-add-scribes\/\" target=\"_blank\">electronic ones <\/a><sup class=\"footnote\">1<\/sup>and web portals that let information pass seamlessly between health systems and patients at the touch of a finger. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statnews.com\/2016\/01\/05\/telemedicine-health-apps-2016\/\" target=\"_blank\">Smartphone apps<\/a><sup class=\"footnote\">2<\/sup>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statnews.com\/2016\/01\/27\/sweat-wearable-tech\/\" target=\"_blank\">wearables<\/a><sup class=\"footnote\">3<\/sup>, medical devices, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statnews.com\/2016\/07\/01\/seven-best-high-tech-health-wellness-gadgets-ces\/\" target=\"_blank\">other gadgets<\/a><sup class=\"footnote\">4<\/sup> that promise to improve health are being developed at an ever faster pace.
