Patricia Alexander knew she needed a mammogram but just couldn\u2019t find the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery time I made an appointment, something would come up,\u201d said Alexander, 53, who lives in Moreno Valley, Calif.<\/p>\n

Over the summer, her doctor\u2019s office, part of Vantage Medical Group, promised her a $25 Target gift card if she got the exam. Alexander, who\u2019s insured through Medi-Cal, California\u2019s version of the Medicaid program for lower-income people, said that helped motivate her to make a new appointment \u2014 and keep it.
