In Rhode Island, hospitals\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.providencejournal.com\/news\/20180103\/ri-hospitals-divert-patients-after-ers-are-swamped\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">diverted ambulances<\/a>\u00a0for a period because they were overcome with patients.
