Shutdown looms: What’s at stake for healthcare

The U.S. could be headed toward a partial government shutdown after Senate Democrats blocked a six-bill government funding package Jan. 29 in a 55-45 vote.

The package needed 60 votes to pass, with eight Republicans joining Democrats in voting no. While Senate negotiations are ongoing, it remains unlikely an agreement will be reached ahead of the Jan. 30 midnight deadline. The shutdown would take effect Jan. 31 at 12:01 a.m. Eastern time, disrupting operations at HHS and other federal agencies. Continue reading here…
