Is short-term health insurance policy a good alternative to a regular policy?

Short-term health insurance policy, which was originally intended to fill a gap in your health insurance for a few months, now can provide coverage for up to 364 days and could be renewed to provide up to 36 months of total coverage.  Some people may consider buying them as an alternative to regular insurance due to the cheaper price tag but are they right for you?  Remember whenever you buy insurance, you need to be sure you understand what your policy includes and excludes.
