What if we cut off the source that causing Alzheimer’s disease?

A hallmark of Alzheimer’s disease is the abnormal clumping of the protein amyloid beta in the brain but efforts to prevent the phenomenon with drugs have so far proven disappointing. However, researchers at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute believe they have hit upon a better way to prevent brain plaques by developing a new drug compound that binds to the cleavage site of the precursor protein instead of the enzyme itself.
