Surgical Outcomes at Rural Hospitals Questioned

Critical access hospitals (generally, smaller rural facilities) may pose a greater risk, especially for orthopedic surgeries, than larger hospitals, according to a report aired recently on pbs.org. Part of the problem may lie in the reimbursement provisions enacted in the late 1990s by Medicare, Christopher Weaver of the Wall Street Journal suggests.
