Is there universal health insurance coverage with premiums people could afford?

With millions of Americans losing their jobs and their employer-provided health insurance as well, it is a good time to ask is how our current system is doing and is there a better way to subsidize private health insurance. Currently employer-provided coverage escapes income and payroll taxes – a generous subsidy – but it is a highly regressive form of subsidy.  Unlike the subsidies in the workplace, Obamacare subsidies lower buyers’ premiums and in some cases their out-of-pocket costs, this system is highly progressive.
