What is Medicare and when does it start?

Medicare is the federal health insurance program for: People who are 65 or older or certain younger people with disabilities, or person who has End-Stage Renal Disease. When will your Medicare coverage start; it depends on when you enrolled in the program.  Medicare has several enrollment periods during which a person can sign up for the program. They are: Initial enrollment period, General enrollment period, Open enrollment period, and Special enrollment period.
