Why Alzheimer’s disease affects one region of the brain and not the others

In a recent study published in Nature Neuroscience, researchers said, “if we understood why these neurons are so vulnerable, maybe we could identify interventions that could make them, and the brain as a whole, more resilient to the disease.” The study found it isn’t clear what causes certain regions of the brain to be affected first by Alzheimer’s disease while many other parts seemingly are still functioning normally.
