The Cost of Medicare Advantage Plans Under Scrutiny

In an article titled “Medicare Advantage have overpaid by more than $100B since 2010,” Kaiser Health News analyst Fred Schulte provides background on concerns that “…Medicare overpaid the private health plans by more than $106 billion from 2010 through 2019 because of the way the private plans charge for sicker patients.” With the growth in popularity of Advantage plans, it appears likely that CMS will come under pressure in the future to adjust its coding rules in the face of projected Medicare Advantage cost increases.
