2 convicted of $33 million in Medicare fraud scheme: They billed for unnecessary home health care, jury said

Two Ypsilanti men could face years in prison at their November sentencing at federal court in Ann Arbor, after a jury this week convicted both of conspiracy to commit health fraud and other charges in an alleged $33 million Medicare billing scheme. Jurors took less than two days in deliberation, following a two-week trial before U.S. District Judge Judith Levy, to find Zafar Mehmood, 49, and Badar Ahmadani, 48, guilty of a combined 11 charges following a 2012 health care fraud indictment.
