Editorial: Strategies to trim drug costs worth exploring

The big pharmaceutical companies have an image problem, primarily because many Americans have a problem of their own – paying what they believe are unreasonable costs for prescription medicines. That was made evident from a poll released last week by the nonpartisan Kaiser Family Foundation, an organization that delves deeply into health care issues. The survey found that nearly three-quarters of Americans believe prices of prescription medications are unreasonable. On the flip side, about the same size majority believe drug companies make too much profit. One result is that only about 40 percent of respondents viewed pharmaceutical companies favorably, according to a report on the poll’s findings by The Associated Press. Read more…
