Is $4,460 per course of treatment a fair price to treat COVID-19?

Gilead has not yet set a price for the first coronavirus treatment to have shown clinical benefits; however, the Institute for Clinical and Economic Review (ICER- best known as the nation’s independent watchdog on drug pricing), says the drug is cost-effective at $4,460 per course of treatment.  Although Gilead is donating remdesivir to the U.S. Government for allocations, and it’s pledged to continue giving doses away until its current supply chain is exhausted, the company has not detailed its plans for supplying the drug after that, whether in the U.S. or beyond.
