Medicare’s Trust Fund is in trouble too

We always hear that Social Security is in trouble, which is true, but do you know Medicare is strained too? The Medicare (Hospital Insurance or HI) trust fund could run out even sooner than Social Security’s trust fund. The Medicare Trustee’s report is warning that Medicare Part A (HI) is in danger of becoming insolvent in 2026 but the report was prepared before the COVID-19 pandemic, so things could actually be worse.  If the trust fund becomes insolvent, payroll tax income will continue to come in to support about 89 percent of Medicare Part A’s expenses.  In Christy Bieber’s article for the Motley Fool, she suggests some possible fixes but warns that they would be painful.  Read Ms. Bieber’s article here…
