San Diego doctors to receive a pay increase from Medicare
San Diego doctors receive $12.33 less than their peers in San Francisco for the same 15 minute office visit. Why, this disparity, it was caused by Medicare designating San Diego County a “rural” locality but that is changing.
San Diego health providers will see a rise in Medicare payments between 6 percent and 9 percent; which will increase the average payouts to doctors by $10,000 to $20,000 a year. The doctors may see a further increase due to many private insurance companies base their payments on Medicare rates. It is estimated that the total changes could increase the Medicare reimbursements in the county by $25 million to $50 million once they are phased in over the next six years. Read article here…
