SENIOR SIGNALS: It’s never too late to slash nursing home bills

When a loved one moves to a nursing home, family members are often shocked to learn that the bill is not paid by Medicare or health insurance. Few families have the money to pay the average nursing home bill in Connecticut of $146,200 a year, according to the State of Connecticut Office of Policy and Management. Most facilities in Connecticut can easily exceed $180,000 per year. Life savings can quickly be depleted, paying these bills.
