Q&A Examines CMS 2027 Outpatient Payment Plan
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) went public last week with its 2027 Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS). Although the plan includes an increase in outpatient reimbursements, questions have been raised about some of its components. For example, reductions in the federal government’s 340B drug discount program are proposed, as are reduced “reimbursements for some imaging services to hospitals.’ Increased emphasis on price transparency for hospital services is also included in the proposed Plan, with CMS calling for public input in this area. Between now and August 31, hospitals and hospital groups will have the opportunity to weigh in on the Plan. As explained in a Q&A post today by Chief Healthcare Executive®’s Ron Southwick, some groups will likely be offering opposition, including America’s Essential Hospitals and the American Hospital Association.
